Clinical Breakthroughs | John Osborne, M.D. Joins DOC 2025 Faculty

John Osborne, M.D. takes a comprehensive, preventive approach approach to cardiovascular care — focused on tracking, treating and ultimately preventing heart disease before it strikes.

Board-certified in multiple specialities — including cardiology, internal medicine, lipidology, clinical hypertension, cardiac CT angiography, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology — Osbourne holds an unusual clinical vantage point. This breadth of experience allows him to  identify and address the underlying genetic, biological , and lifestyle drives of heart disease. His goal? Not just to treat, but to eliminate heart disease through early,  non-invasive methods — long before a life-threatening event occurs.

Osborne notes that cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide and emphasizes a critical insight: not all arterial plaque carries the same risk. Soft, unstable plaque is far more dangerous than calcified plaque — a distinction that shapes preventive strategies.

This vision inspired the creation of ClearCardioTM, where Osborne serves as Chief Medical Officer and co-founder. ClearCardio leverages advanced AI and imaging to detect, quantify and track both calcified plaque and soft, lipid-rich plaque that can rupture and cause heart attacks or strokes. Patients receive personalize monitoring or treatment plans — a model that builds on Osborne’s extensive published research in atherosclerosis, vascular biology and molecular genetics.

Osborne earned his M.D. from Jefferson Medical College and his Ph.D. in cardiovascular physiology from Thomas Jefferson University. He completed his postdoctoral work, internship, residency, research residency in internal medicine, followed by a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He is a Fellow of both the American College of Cardiology and the National Lipid Association.

We are honored to welcome Dr. Osborne to the DOC 2025 Faculty, and look forward to the expertise and vision he will bring to this year’s DOC gathering.
