Longevity Medicine | DOC Welcomes Helen Messier, M.D., Ph.D., to its 2026 Faculty

Dr. Helen Messier, M.D., Ph.D., and Chief Medical Officer of Bioscope.AI, is adamant that patients are not defined by their symptoms.  An amalgam of a patient’s genome, biome, epigenetic markers, and more make up a whole person. This point of view has driven the trained immunologist and Institute of Functional Medicine educator throughout her career, as she publishes, works with patients, and trains other doctors to search for signals that can uniquely optimize each patient’s longevity and health span.

Messier views health span as the resiliency to live in a way a patient imagines for as long as possible. She brings a preventative approach to patient care — looking “upstream” and “being much more proactive” in identifying lifestyle patterns and potential causes long before dysfunction, disease, or symptoms take root.

Not surprisingly, Messier is a proponent of integrating AI into the medical sphere, helping to identify patterns that can personalize treatments and approaches for patients. To Messier, AI may one day help us bring back the small-town family doctor in a different guise.

“The opportunity that AI offers us is to bring that all back together and see the whole person that we are,” she said in 2026.

Dr. Messier earned her Ph.D. in immunology and molecular biology from the University of Alberta and her M.D. in family medicine from the University of Calgary, co-authoring numerous papers and studies. The former founder of Advocus Health, a series of concierge medical practices across Canada, Messier has also served as the Chief Medical Officer for health tech firm Viome, longevity diagnostics group Fountain Life, and, most recently, with precision medical platform Bioscope.ai.

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Messier to the DOC community!
