Clinical Breakthroughs | Tony Masri, M.D. Joins DOC 2025 Faculty

For more than a decade, the neurologist and board-certified sleep specialist Tony Masri, M.D. has dedicated his research and practice to sleep and its effect on overall health.

“Anyone interested in longevity and wellness is interested in sleep,” Masri said in 2024. “We used to think of sleep as one of the pillars of health. We now realize it’s not a pillar, it’s the foundation.”

Masri has authored multiple book chapters on the subject as well as numerous papers, from the potential link between acute stroke and obstructive sleep apnea, to idiopathic hypersomnia, a condition characterized by intense levels of sleepiness during the day.

Masri understands that people often have different circadian rhythms that affect when they feel more awake, such as those who naturally rise early, and those who feel more awake in the evening. He’s less concerned about shifting when people are up in the mornings than ensuring they’re waking up feeling rested and cognitively alert. To Masri, good sleep forms the bedrock of a long, healthy life.

To that end, general sleep disorders are also of concern to Masri, from shifts in circadian rhythm to insomnia, and he works directly with patients to diagnose and manage sleep disruptors. This focus led him, in part, to launch Helyx Health with his fellow DOC Faculty member Britney Blair, Ph.D, in 2023. With offices across California, the private practice blends both sleep and mental health tools to help its patients achieve physical and cognitive health.

We are delighted to have Dr. Masri join our growing DOC 2025 Faculty and welcome him to our DOC community.
